Crews were searching Sunday for a Dallas firefighter who went missing while kayaking on Lavon Lake.

According to a news release from the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were called Saturday morning to a stretch of the lake near Bratonia Park in Princeton after witnesses saw a dog paddling near an overturned kayak.

The sheriff’s office deployed patrol units, drone operators, dive teams and other resources from several agencies, including neighboring fire departments, Texas Parks and Wildlife Game wardens and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The news release said the dog was rescued in “good condition,” while the kayaker, identified by the sheriff’s office as a Dallas Fire-Rescue firefighter, had not been found as of Sunday afternoon.

Officials said search conditions “have been challenging due to high winds and submerged trees.”

Bratonia Park, according to the news release, is closed to the public as the search continues.

“We ask that community members avoid the area to allow emergency responders to continue operations safely and efficiently,” the release said.
