Phoenix police were asking people to stay away from a west Phoenix intersection Saturday morning.

Officers detained a man they had been negotiating with, described as “an armed man” near North 83rd Avenue and West Indian School Road, the department said on its official X account. Police said they were negotiating with the man before 10 a.m. on the social media platform. The agency updated the negotiation status at 11:11 a.m.

The man, who has not been identified, received medical care, police said.

No update on road accessibility was given.

The intersection is a busy one, with a Fry’s, a McDonald’s and several other businesses and commercial plazas.
