Lawrence opened with five pars in a row, made his first birdie
Jacksonville Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence is progressing at the right time
For Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen, quarterback Trevor Lawrence is making good progress as the team heads into mandatory minicamp.
Trevor Lawrence enjoyed a better day on the golf course July 12 in the second round of the American Century Championship, relatively speaking.
Lawrence rallied from a first-round score of minus-18 under a Modified Stableford system, parred his first five holes at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nev., added his first birdie of the tournament on his second nine and finished minus-1, 17 points better than the first round.
Lawrence’s combined score of minus-19 left him in a tie for 75th with actor Rob Mac.
Trevor Lawrence is ahead of several NFL stars
Lawrence began on the back nine of the golf course and parred Nos. 10 through 14 to pick up five quick points. He then double bogeyed the 15th and 16th holes but rallied with a bogey at the par-3 17th and a par at the par-5 18th.
Lawrence played his first four holes of the second nine at 6-over but then birdied the par-3 fifth hole. He didn’t finish quite that strong, with three doubles and a bogey at No. 8.
He had the best round of his group. Lawrence beat Saturday Night Live cast member Colin Jost by five points and actor Miles Teller by 14 points. Lawrence also has a better two-round score than San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (minus-21), Tampa Bay Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield (minus-24) and former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce (minus-37).
When will Trevor Lawrence tee off in the third round?
Tee times and groupings for the final round will be determined later on Saturday.
What is the American Century Championship format?
- The tournament uses a modified Stableford format that awards points for the outcome of a hole.
- 10 points: Albatross (3-under on a hole, such as a 2 on a par-5)
- 8 points: Hole in one.
- 6 points: Eagle.
- 3 points: Birdie.
- 1 point: Par.
- 0 points: Bogey.
- -2 points: Double bogey. Players don’t record scores of triple bogey or higher so making a double and the minus-2 points is the worst a player can do on a single hole.
