It’s springtime, Houston. This March, Houston’s wonderful parks and gardens will come alive with a vibrant display of blooming flowers. While Houstonians are free to stroll through these wonderful floral areas, it is true that some of the city’s best displays are private. There is one time of year, however, that the public can enjoy these wonderful displays and that time is now.
The Azalea Trail is a longstanding Houston tradition now in its 88th year. Here, the public is invited to explore some of the most gorgeous private gardens in the city for an event that combines philanthropy, horticulture, architecture, and history.
Serving as the city’s unofficial kickoff to spring, the tradition marks the time when azaleas, dogwoods, camellias, and other beautiful bulbs reach peak bloom. Year after year, the private gardens are a highlight that provide the public with behind-the-gates sites into resplendent curated landscapes and seasonal floral displays.

The Azalea Trail in Houston runs from March 6 – March 8, 2026. With ticket purchase, visitors can explore seven gardens which include four private residential gardens in the Memorial and Tanglewoods areas. Other stops on the floral trail include the Bayou Bend Collections and Gardens, Rienzi, and Forum of Civics. During this time, visitors can learn more about emerging design and gardening ideas, historical context, and of the plants, themselves.
Visitors are also invited to explore the newly opened Ismaili Center Houston during the event. Opened this past December, the new Houston landmark will provide complimentary tours from March 7 – 8 that which include access to its stunning 9 acres of gardens.
Tickets to the Azalea Trail in Houston are priced at $35. Proceeds from ticket purchases will go toward local conservation, beautification, environmental programming, historic garden preservation, as well as horticultural education efforts.
