“Not the day our No. 2 Whelen/NLEOMF Chevrolet team had hoped for. It’s a bummer to break a rear-end housing so early in the race. There’s still a lot of good that came out of the weekend. Our team has put in a tremendous amount of effort on the road courses, and I felt like this was the first weekend we could run with Shane (van Gisbergen) and Connor (Zilisch). There’s still a lot to be proud of with our Richard Childress Racing team. We’ve had fast cars for the last month and a half, and these things happen. We will go back to the shop and come back stronger next week at Dover.”

Austin Hill and the No. 21 Bennett Transportation & Logistics Chevrolet Team Battle Handling Issues in Final Stage at Sonoma Raceway

“Not the weekend we wanted for our Bennett Transportation & Logistics Chevrolet. We had an uphill climb after starting mid-pack, but the car was good enough to drive into the top-five. During the first two stages, I feel like we were in the game and would be in contention for another top-five finish. Unfortunately, something felt off right before the Stage 3 restart and it was a battle until the end. I couldn’t get through Turns 7 or 11 during that run. If I tried to push the car, I would very easily get off track and couldn’t lean on the rears. The No. 21 team will go back to the shop and look over the car to determine if something was wrong before our next road course. Overall, proud of the effort.”
