Luis Campusano is getting another shot in the majors.

It remains to be seen how long this shot is.

The Padres on Sunday placed Gavin Sheets on the paternity list and recalled Campusano for his third stint in the majors.

As has been the case for all of his starts, Campusano will serve as the DH — in the seven-hole—for Sunday’s 1:10 p.m. first pitch against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The 26-year-old Campusano is 0-for-18 with six walks and nine strikeouts in nine games spread across two separate stints over a six-week stretch of the season, which includes a period of 13 days in which his only plate appearance was an at-bat against a position player (Kike Hernandez) in a mop-up game.

Campusano is a .241/.295/.374 hitter with 17 homers in parts of six seasons in the majors and a .301/.376/.487 hitter with 68 homers in 1,946 plate appearances across eight seasons in the minors.

That includes a productive season this year with Triple-A El Paso, where he is among the Padres farm system leaders with 14 homers and a .308/.427/.587 batting line across 57 games in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

With Campusano serving as the DH and Sheets on the paternity list, Bryce Johnson will start in left field and bat eighth, Luis Arraez will serve as the first baseman and the right-handed-hitting Jose Iglesias will get the start at second base over Jake Cronenworth and bat sixth.

Saturday’s win over the Phillies clinched the series and gives the Padres a chance to win the season series if they can complete the sweep. They would also move 10 games above .500 for the first time since June 10.

The Padres (52-43) remain 4½ games behind the Dodgers in the NL West but have moved a half-game ahead of the Giants in the race for the NL’s last wild-card spot. They have, however, also closed the gap to two games between them and the Phillies (54-41), the NL’s current No. 2 wild-card team.

Here is how the Phillies will line up for the final game of the first half:

Sunday’s pitching matchup

Phillies LHP Cristopher Sanchez (7-2, 2.59 ERA)

He has allowed two runs or less in eight straight starts (1.84 ERA), which includes beating the Padres with seven innings of one-run ball last week in Philadelphia. Sanchez has a 15-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 19 innings in three career starts (2.37 ERA) against the Padres.

Here is how Sanchez has fared against current Padres:

Padres RHP Nick Pivetta (9-2, 3.07 ERA)

The former Philly pitched the Padres to their only win in Philadelphia last week, striking out six over six innings of one-run ball. Pivetta has allowed one run over his last three starts (0.48 ERA). He has a 2.30 ERA in 10 starts so far at Petco Park.
