Expend4bles, Jason Statham’s legendary box office bomb, is becoming a massive hit on the streaming charts. The film had a disastrous theatrical run in 2023.
FlixPatrol reports that Expend4bles is currently #2 on the Starz Top 10 Movies in the United States as of July 13, 2025. The only film beating it at the moment is Flight Risk, Mark Wahlberg’s 2025 thriller about a pilot transporting an air marshal to a trial. Expend4bles is currently beating out eight other popular films on Starz: Men in Black (#3), Tower Heist (#4), Night Shift (#5), 1992 (#6), Men in Black II (#7), The Weapon (#8), Imaginary (#9) and Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (#10).

While Jason Statham is certainly an incredible actor, choosing to star in this unnecessary action sequel remains a major mistake for the star.
Statham led an ensemble cast for the action movie, which included Sylvester Stallone, 50 Cent, Megan Fox, Dolph Lundgren and more. The fourth installment in the Expendables franchise, it follows elite mercenaries who are sent to Libya to stop a rival named Suarto Rahmat from stealing nuclear warheads and aiding a terrorist named Ocelot.
Expend4bles was the first film in the series not to be written or directed by Sylvester Stallone. Scott Waugh (Need for Speed) directed, with the screenplay written by Kurt Wimmer (The Beekeeper), Tad Daggerheart and Max Adams. Unfortunately, the new creative team didn’t lead the franchise to new heights, and instead, the movie made a sharp turn and saw overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics.
While the entire franchise has received mixed reviews (with The Expendables 2 currently the highest rated in the franchise with an approval rating of only 68%), Expend4bles reached new lows. The film has a 14% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics slamming the movie for underwhelming action scenes and cheap effects. The movie also stumbled at the box office, grossing only $51 million worldwide against a budget of $100 million. It was also nominated for seven Razzie Awards and took home two (Worst Supporting Actor and Actress for Stallone and Fox).
Despite the film’s perceived shortcomings, fans of the franchise appear to love it, as proven by its resurgence on streaming platforms. It also has a respectable audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, where it sits at a 69% approval rating from over 500+ verified audience reviews. Those who enjoyed the earlier installments in the franchise are likely to enjoy the fourth movie — although those who just want a high-octane action film might not be impressed if the other Expendables films failed to meet their standards.

The 4th Expendables film was a massive flop, but that doesn’t mean that one of Jason Statham’s best collaborators can’t help turn the series around.
Statham’s Latest Movies Have Performed Better than Expend4bles
Luckily for Statham, his recent action thriller movies have performed better at the box office than Expend4bles. The Beekeeper, Statham’s 2024 movie with director David Ayer, received positive reviews from critics and pulled in over $160 million worldwide, leading to a sequel that’s currently in development.
Earlier this year, Statham joined forces with Ayer once more for A Working Man, with the film’s screenplay written by Expandables veteran Sylvester Stallone. It received a more lukewarm reaction, but still grossed $99 million against a $40 million budget, and it’s also become a streaming hit in recent months.
Expend4bles is now streaming on Starz.
