CHICAGO (WLS) — The Chicago weather forecast Friday began with heavy fog and contains chances for severe storms.

A Dense Fog Advisory was in effect for the area until 10 a.m.
There is a ground stop for departures to Chicago Midway International Airport due to foggy conditions. The Federal Aviation Administration said it is expected to last until 11:30 a.m., with a 30-60% probability of extension.
At Chicago O’Hare International Airport, there is a ground delay due to thunderstorms, the FAA said. Delays are averaging 167 minutes.
ABC7 AccuWeather Meteorologist Tracy Butler says there is a chances for rain and strong storms on Friday.

Much of the Chicago area is under a Level 1 severe threat, but some south, west and north suburbs are under a Level 2 risk of severe weather.
There is a chance for rain for the far west and northwest parts of the area after 7 a.m. Butler said the rain may hold off in the city until about 10 a.m., but it will still be misty.
A separate line of storms is possible in the mid to late afternoon, with potential to bring large hail and strong winds.
Overnight into early Saturday morning, another line of storms is expected to move through, bringing potential for strong winds.
The rain is expected to end by between 7-8 a.m. and the warmed part of the day with temperatures falling in the afternoon.
