Authorities said officers were first called on Aug. 31, 2025, just before 9 p.m. to the area of 20th Avenue and Chipman Road, which is south of Broadway, where they found the baby in critical condition.
Homicide detectives responded to the home and interviewed the family, including Espinoza, who was watching the infant. On Sept. 3, the victim died.
Police said that the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner ruled the infant’s death a homicide on Feb. 25, 2026.
That prompted detectives to arrest Espinoza Thursday on multiple charges.
Jail records obtained late Friday showed Espinoza was being held on a $1 million bond. He was also booked on several probation violations.
Specific details surrounding the infant’s death have not been released.
