Woman accused of running red light, killing man in central Phoenix

  • March 8, 2026

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A young woman is accused of running a red light and causing a deadly crash in central Phoenix Friday afternoon.

Phoenix police say officers arrested Selene Alexandra Garcia Telix, 18, after responding to a crash near 3rd Avenue and Indian School Road just after 1:30 p.m.

Authorities arrived and found the other driver, 75-year-old John Stephen Conway, seriously hurt. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Telix was also taken to a hospital with less serious injuries.

Detectives believe Telix was speeding when she ran the red light and collided with Conway’s vehicle. Police do not believe impairment was a factor.

After she was released from the hospital, Telix was booked into jail and is facing multiple felony charges related to the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
