PHOENIX – Commuter traffic from the East Valley toward Phoenix was blocked for several hours Friday morning after a serious injury crash on US 60 in Tempe, authorities said.

The closure on westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) at Mill Avenue reopened just before 8:30 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

What caused crash that blocked US 60?

The collision occurred between Mill Avenue and Priest Drive around 4:20 a.m.

It involved three vehicles, including a truck with a worker picking up traffic barricades, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

A Dodge pickup rear-ended the Bob’s Barricade attenuator truck, causing the pickup to spin out and hit a nearby box truck, DPS said.

Five people were injured in the collision. The driver of the pickup’s injuries were serious, DPS said.
