Chipotle fans with tattoos can grab a buy-one-get-one (BOGO) deal on Friday the 13th, according to USA Today. The offer reportedly runs from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. local time at participating spots. Customers just need to show a tattoo—permanent, temporary or even drawn on.

Staff at Chipotle will decide if the tattoo qualifies, USA Today confirmed. The deal covers up to five free entrees per check. Each free item matches a paid one of equal or greater value, the report says. Freebies go to tattooed folks only, so groups may need multiple people.

Inspired by memes and flash tattoo tradition

According to People, the promo ties to the meme “tatted like a Chipotle bag.” Those bags sport ink-like designs. The phrase went viral in 2019, People said, which was used to describe Adam Levine.

“What started as an internet meme became a real-world expression of fandom for our brand,” said Stephanie Perdue, Chipotle’s interim chief marketing officer, in a news release.

Friday the 13th nods to tattoo shops’ flash tattoo sales. According to USA Today, shops offer pre-designed ink at discounts that day. Chipotle links to that vibe with this deal in the U.S., Canada, U.K., France and Germany.

“Bringing this promotion back for Friday the 13th further establishes our connection with the tattoo community, and partnering with Swae Lee allows us to spotlight his authentic passion for the brand and give our fans something extra to commemorate the moment together,” Perdue said in Chipotle’s press release.

Miami gets Swae Lee temporary tattoo bonus

Rapper Swae Lee, of Rae Sremmurd fame, co-created temporary tattoo sheets. According to People, they mimic Chipotle bag art. Free sheets go to buyers at Miami’s Midtown spot—3201 N. Miami Ave.—from 3 to 4 p.m., while supplies last, People confirmed.

“‘Tatted like a Chipotle bag’ is really about self-expression,” Swae Lee said in a statement, according to People. “It was cool to bring it into the real world and create designs that actually feel like me.”

Last year’s version set a sales record for Chipotle’s 3-4 p.m. hour. The chain has dished freebies before, like chips and queso for National Tortilla Chip Day. This BOGO builds on that fan love.
