Mekhi Phifer has joined “High Potential” Season 2 at ABC in a recurring guest star role, Variety has learned exclusively.
Exact character details are being kept under wraps, aside from the fact that Phifer will play a character who becomes involved in major crimes. Phifer will appear alongside series lead Kaitlin Olson as well as cast members Daniel Sunjata, Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, Matthew Lamb, Steve Howey, and Judy Reyes.
In television, Phifer previously starred in “ER” for nearly 150 episodes, while he has also led shows like “Frequency” at The CW, “Lie to Me” at Fox, “House of Lies” at Showtime, and “Truth Be Told” at Apple TV+. In film, Phifer is perhaps best known for his role in the film “8 Mile,” while he has also appeared in features like “Dawn of the Dead,” “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” the “Divergent” films, and “O.”
He is repped by Gersh and Brookside Artist Management.
“High Potential” originally debuted on ABC in September 2024. The series received positive reviews upon its release, with ABC picking it up for Season 2 in January. It is based on the French series “Haut Potentiel Intellectuel.” The series will return for its second season this fall airing Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and streaming next day on Hulu.
Drew Goddard created the series and executive produces along with Sarah Esberg via Goddard Textiles. Todd Harthan executive produces and serves as showrunner. Olson executive produces in addition to starring,w ith Marc Halsey also executive producing. 20th Television, where Harthan is under an overall deal, is the studio.
