Wimbledon has now closed its doors for another year after the men’s singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Sinner beat Alcaraz to win his first Wimbledon title, getting revenge for the Roland Garros final where he had three championship points saved.

Both the men’s and women’s singles events saw new champions, with Iga Swiatek thrashing Amanda Anisimova to win Wimbledon.

These players have all seen their rankings either remain the same or improve, but there is one former Grand Slam champion who has now plummeted after Wimbledon.

Barbora Krejcikova was the defending Wimbledon champion coming into this year’s tournament, but she was coming into her title defence with far from ideal preparation.

After suffering with a back injury, former world number two Krejcikova did not compete in 2025 until May and had only won three matches heading into Wimbledon this year.

Despite this, Krejcikova managed to win her opening two matches at Wimbledon to set up a third round meeting with 10th seed Emma Navarro.

The two-time major winner would win the first set of this match, before physical issues appeared to hamper her again.

Navarro would beat a tearful Krejcikova in three sets, as she saw her Wimbledon title defence come to a heartbreaking end on Court No.1.

After dropping a colossal 1870 ranking points, Krejcikova has now dropped 62 places down the rankings to world number 78.

This is Krejcikova’s lowest ranking since October 2020, as she now looks to regain both form and fitness to climb back up the rankings.

Bianca Andreescu also tumbles down the WTA rankings after failing to qualify

Krejcikova is not the only former Grand Slam champion to have suffered a significant drop in the latest WTA rankings update.

Bianca Andreescu has suffered with both injury and mental health struggles since her US Open victory in 2019, and was forced to play qualifying at Wimbledon.

The Canadian won her opening round match in Roehampton, before Andreescu was beaten by Carson Branstine to see her Wimbledon qualifying hopes come to an end.

Andreescu reached the third round in the main draw of Wimbledon last year, and as a result has now fallen 39 places down to world number 185.

This will make it more difficult for Andreescu to enter tournaments, but she has already received a wildcard for the upcoming Canadian Open in Montreal.
