The G.I. Joe prequel movie Snake Eyes has a second chance at streaming success later this month. James Bond contender Henry Golding plays the iconic title character in a live-action reboot of the G.I. Joe movie franchise.

Hulu subscribers who missed Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins can catch up when the streamer adds the action blockbuster to its streaming movie catalog on July 17, 2025. Divergent veteran Robert Schwentke directed the 2021 movie, which added tons of new lore to Snake Eyes’ backstory. The project also tried to set the stage for a rebooted G.I. Joe movie franchise.

That Time G.I. Joe Basically Remade A 43-Year-Old Horror Classic

This horror-influenced G.I. Joe arc was less “Yo Joe!” and more “Nope, nope, burn it with fire.”

The film’s plot followed Snake Eyes as he attempted to infiltrate and sabotage the Arashikage on the orders of vengeful former member Kenta (played by Takehiro Hira). In return, he was promised help in finding the mysterious figure who murdered his father 20 years earlier. However, Snake Eyes develops a bond with Kenta’s cousin Tommy / Storm Shadow (portrayed by Andrew Koji) that forced him to reconsider his loyalties. The introduction of the G.I. Joe organization and their rivals Cobra further complicated a deadly rivalry.

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins introduced numerous iconic characters from the Hasbro toy franchise, as a way to build out a wider cinematic universe. Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist) played Baroness, an operative of the terrorist organization Cobra. G.I. Joe soldier Major Scarlett O’Hara was portrayed by Scream VI’s Samara Weaving. The movie also sheds new light on the once-brotherly bond between Snake Eyes and his future nemesis Storm Shadow.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said at the time of Snake Eyes’ release that the film was supposed to set the stage for a full-scale G.I. Joe movie in the future, but the movie only had 35% approval from critics and underperformed at the box office by making just $40 million against a reported $80-100 million budget. However, Snake Eyes does have a respectable 74% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, so there’s a chance for it to find lots of new fans on Hulu.

Snake Eyes Actor Henry Goulding Is Now a James Bond Fan-Favorite

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins star Goulding is frequently mentioned alongside Tom Holland, Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson as potential contenders to play the next 007 in director Denis Villeneuve’s Bond movie. Goulding has offered conflicting answers about the possibility of succeeding Daniel Craig as the iconic spy. Goulding encouraged Bond producers to “sign [him] up” in May 2025, before changing his tune in June with some much stronger words about the role.

“I think [Bond is] every actor’s kind of nightmare.”

The actor suggested he’d be more comfortable playing a different MI6 agent in the venerable action franchise. “Why can’t they bring out more agents or more 00’s? I think that would be so much more fun, because there just isn’t the restraints and the expectation,” he suggested, adding, “I think I would love it so much more if there wasn’t that overhanging cultural pressure.”
