Program offers up to $14K in federal rebates in home energy upgrades for Arizonans

  • March 18, 2026

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – The Efficiency Arizona Program is offering Arizona homeowners up to $14,000 in rebates to cover the cost of energy efficiency upgrades, including HVAC systems, heat pumps and insulation.

T.K. Busse, a certified contractor with Advantage Home Performance, said the Efficiency Arizona program can significantly reduce monthly electric bills — and in some cases, eliminate the upfront cost entirely.

“I’ve talked to a lot of clients that have energy bills over $700, and they think it’s normal because they don’t know any better,” Busse said.

Busse said low-income households could have 100% of project costs covered, while mid-income households may receive up to 50%. He said the rebate money can be credited to the bill.

Julia Merritt, who lives near Tucson, said she was among the first to use the program. Her air conditioning system had been struggling before the upgrades.

“I didn’t think we’d make it another year,” Merritt said.

After the upgrades, Merritt said her electric bills dropped by 40% last summer.

“It was like I hit the jackpot,” she said.

This month, Gov. Katie Hobbs visited Phoenix homeowners who applied for the program. Hobbs said only about 800 rebates have been issued to homeowners statewide.

Busse said thousands of Arizonans are missing out on the savings opportunity.

“They get to be comfortable and still be able to afford it,” Busse said.

If you would like to apply, click here. Busse said you can learn if you qualify in a couple of weeks.

If you do, he recommends booking a contractor as soon as possible. A list of approved contractors will be provided when approved.
