The Scottsdale City Council has unanimously agreed to review two traffic signal proposals aimed at improving road safety and easing congestion.
During its July 2 meeting, the council directed City Manager Greg Caton to schedule a staff presentation and discussion on the potential changes. Formal review is expected to take place when legislative sessions resume Aug. 25.
The two initiatives under consideration include:
-
Optimizing Left-Turn Signals: City staff will analyze whether adjustments to left-turn signal timings at intersections could reduce wait times and improve traffic flow.
-
Extending Yellow-to-Red Intervals: A second review will explore lengthening the time between yellow and red lights to allow more time for vehicles to clear intersections and for pedestrians to cross safely.
Mayor Lisa Borowsky, who led the push for the review, said the proposed changes reflect a broader commitment to public safety and traffic efficiency.
“Our community deserves the safest and most efficient roadways possible,” Borowsky said in a statement. “By analyzing our current signal systems and exploring adjustments, we can make a tangible difference in daily commutes.”
The presentations will include analysis by city staff, followed by discussion and possible council action.
