For more than 20 years, One Step Beyond Inc., has provided empowering programs and services for adults with intellectual disabilities — but there was always the aim for more.
Housing services were included in One Step Beyond’s original contract in 2002, said Jeff Swanson, the executive director of administration for OSBI. Early attempts were insufficient.
“We’ve had group homes in the past, and we’ve quickly recognized that’s not the model we’re looking for. We’re looking for an independent living arrangement, ideally,” Swanson said.
