A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Wednesday through 10 p.m. Thursday, with heat index values projected to reach between 95 and 100 degrees Wednesday and between 100 and 104 degrees Thursday. An Air Quality Alert is also in place from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday. The New York State Department of Health advises limiting strenuous outdoor activity during this time, particularly for young children and people with respiratory conditions or heart disease.

The city is urging New Yorkers without air conditioning to visit a cooling center. Information on cooling centers can be found on the city’s website. For other ways to stay cool, visit here.

The National Weather Service said scattered showers and thunderstorms are also expected on Wednesday and Thursday, with the potential for heavy downpours.

This comes just two days after a powerful storm dumped more than 2 inches of rain on the city. During that event, flash flooding overwhelmed parts of the city’s sewer infrastructure and disrupted subway service, with water gushing out of platform drains.
