After a two-month investigation, Mayor Lisa Borowsky’s chief of staff Lamar Whitmer was fired March 20.
A final report resulting from the investigation cites several reasons for Whitmer’s dismissal, including allegedly making offensive comments to city employees, contacting city employees after City Manager Greg Caton warned him against it and being the CEO of the Alliance for Scottsdale’s Future, which has adopted Borowsky’s political stances while campaigning against Councilors Barry Graham and Jan Dubauskas as well as Vice Mayor Adam Kwasman
“On or about January 12, 2026, Human Resources received allegations regarding Mr. Whitmer’s interactions with several city employees. Mr. Whitmer was alleged to have made unprofessional and/or offensive comments to several city employees, disregarded direction from the city manager regarding directly contacting city employees and was alleged to have an unauthorized participation in a non-profit organization that was in direct conflict with his duties as a city of Scottsdale employee for which he did not submit a request for outside employment,” the report says.
