What Awaits the Yankees in the Second Half of the 2025 Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

That was fun. Okay, maybe a Home Run Derby to determine the All-Star Game’s winner isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it certainly got people talking about the sport and that’s a win. But now that that’s over, it’s time to see what awaits the Yankees as they open the season’s second half on Friday against the Atlanta Braves.

For starters, the team currently sits in second place in the AL East, two games back of the Toronto Blue Jays. After leading the division for much of the first half, a 6-16 slide in June helped knock the Yanks out of the lead. With six games left against Toronto, they still have plenty of time to right the ship.

According to The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner, Manager Aaron Boone gave the media this assessment of New York’s first half: “Incomplete. There’s obviously been a lot of good, there’s been two weeks where we really struggled. We set out in spring training and the start of the year to get back to the playoffs and go chase after a world title and all those hopes and dreams are right there…Long way to go still. We gotta keep getting better, but we’re in position to do what we need to do.”

One way to “keep getting better” is to shore up the bullpen and starting rotation. GM Brian Cashman has a habit of finding useful arms at the Trade Deadline each year, but this time might be more challenging with so many teams still theoretically in the playoff race.

Third base is also in need of an upgrade and there are some interesting names rumored to be on the market…(cough, cough) Eugenio Suárez. Luis Gil is expected back in August, so that should help the Bombers out as well.

Ultimately, the Yankees are “all-in” on the season, as they usually are, so moves will be made. The question is if they’ll be impactful enough to return the team to the World Series or if they’ll leave Yankees fans scratching their heads?

There’s still 66 games left in their season and it’s sure to be an interesting ride.
