San Antonio — Hero in the Dark: Security Guard Rescues Two Sisters from Wreck Caused by Alleged Drunk Driver

“You’re her guardian angel for life.”

The heartbreak is still fresh.

Seven-year-old Aliyah quietly returns to the place where her stepmother, Karina Ramirez, was killed in a violent crash allegedly caused by an alleged drunk driver. Her family says their lives “were turned upside down.”

The head-on collision happened last month on Harry Wurzbach near Eisenhauer. Karina didn’t survive. But in the backseat, two girls — Aliyah and her 12-year-old stepsister Skyla — were critically injured.

“The femur, which is the largest bone in the body, was broken completely in half,” said their grandmother, Melanie. “She required two rods placed in from her knee all the way to the top of her leg.”

Skyla now depends on a wheelchair. Her broken jaw forces her to drink all her meals through a straw. She “can barely open her mouth,” Melanie added.

Two families, forever changed — but incredibly, both girls survived.

That’s because of a stranger named Cameron Wilkerson.

The security officer was just starting his shift at Urban Crest Apartments when he saw the crash. Without hesitation, he jumped into action.

“He’s my hero. My daughter’s hero. My granddaughter’s hero,” said Melanie.

Wilkerson blocked traffic with his truck. He rushed to the burning wreck, reached inside, and shut off the car to prevent a fire. Then, he smashed a front window and pulled Skyla from the wreck, carrying her 100 feet away.

But Aliyah was still missing inside the car.

“He asked one more time, ‘Is anyone in here?’ And my granddaughter said, ‘I’m back here, but my leg is broken.’ He couldn’t get the door open, so he had to break the window out,” Melanie recalled.

Cameron saved both girls’ lives.

Weeks later, the family teamed up with FOX SA and Air & Plumbing Today for a special surprise.

In a powerful reunion, Cameron finally met the family he saved.

“You’re our family’s hero,” Melanie told him. “You’re her guardian angel for life. We want San Antonio to know that true heroes still exist.”

And his kindness didn’t stop at the crash site.

Days after the accident, Cameron found out where the girls were recovering—and surprised Aliyah in the hospital with a giant teddy bear.

“I lost my mom five years ago,” he said. “Seeing those girls brought all those feelings back. I just wanted to help them.”

That moment of compassion led to an unforgettable Cash for Kindness moment.

“Thanks to our sponsors at Air & Plumbing Today and FOX SA” said Ryan Wolf, handing Cameron $1,000 in cash.

“$500 $600 $700 $800 $900 $1,000 for your family.”

Cameron was speechless—but his message to others was crystal clear:

“If you see something going on, step up and help,” he said. “Don’t just stay idle. Do something.”
