(BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo.) The rural internet project is almost complete, according to Ron Hook, Western District Commissioner of Buchanan County.

According to Hook, the commissioners met to discuss all potential projects related to the American Rescue Plan Act, with hooking up all parts of the county to modern-day fiber being felt as a priority.

“Everybody pays taxes, and so the more taxpayers you affect by doing this, I think, shines a light on what the county is looking at, and that is, you know, what? What does the county, the people of this county want?” said Hook. “What do they need? What can we do as county commissioners to appease them that way, so we’re looking for things all the time.”

Hook said that most of the rural communities in Buchanan County are now connected, and only a few small dead spots remain. As this plan winds down, they are also considering continuing other strong projects, such as the Buchanan County Fairgrounds Project and the Lake Contrary Revitalization.
