Several neighbouring homes had to be evacuated after a two-alarm house fire broke out in Etobicoke late Saturday night.
Emergency crews were called to a two-storey home in the area of Dundas Street West and Royal York Road shortly after 10 p.m. for reports of a house fire.
Platoon Chief Steven Buckingham said that firefighters initially undertook an “aggressive interior attack” but eventually made the decision to battle the fire from outside the home after noticing that the flames had compromised the second floor.
“We adopted what we would call a defensive attack and were protecting the exposures on both sides. Thankfully the rear was in a park area and the house was set back,” he told reporters at the scene.
Images from the scene showed flames and heavy smoke coming from the roof.
Crews, however, were able to knock down the blaze within a few hours.
Paramedics said they assessed two people at the scene, but no one was transported to hospital. No other injuries have been reported.
It’s not yet clear how the fire started.
