Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, director of the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, is revealing the reason Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez were cut from the film.

Back in November 2024, Deadline exclusively reported that the Summer I Turned Pretty star and the Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story actor had joined the cast of the slasher sequel.

However, when viewers see the film on the big screen, neither Tung nor Chavez will appear in the movie, despite having filmed scenes.

“In every movie, it’s best laid plans, and then you edit the movie and you put it together and you go, ‘I love this in a vacuum. This is a fantastic scene. But it doesn’t fit in the movie,’” Robinson said in an interview with People. “It was just one of those situations where it had nothing to do with Lola and Nicholas — they are both so fantastic. I really would love to work with them again. I loved working with them. They did a fabulous job. But in the larger tapestry of the film, it just didn’t fit.”

The filmmaker noted that the situation “sucks because you don’t want to do that to those actors,” adding, “And it sucks when you love something as a scene but that scene just doesn’t work in the final cut of the film.”

I Know What You Did Last Summer brings back Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. in their roles of Julie James and Ray Bronson. Other actors in the sequel include Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, and more.
