A female bald eagle was freed after being found entangled in fishing line on the Haw River Friday morning.

According to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, officers traveled more than seven miles down the Haw River near the B. Everett Jordan Dam to rescue her, saying the bald eagle was very exhausted by the time officers saved her.

She was transported to a local non-profit wildlife rehabilitator by American Wildlife Refuge for a check-up.

Officials want to remind everyone traveling on the waterways to dispose of all fishing lines and tackle gear properly so animals don’t get caught in them.

The rescued bald eagle is expected to be released back into the wild in a week or two.
