Joffe Books has hired Rachel Slatter as editorial director, and will be joining on 1st September 2025.

Slatter joins Joffe Books from Severn House, the genre-fiction imprint of Canongate where she is currently editorial director. She has commissioned and edited authors such as New York Times bestsellers Lee Goldberg, Wendy Corsi Staub, Simon R Green and Barbara Hambly; Sunday Times bestseller David Mark; and award-winning authors Adam Oyebanji, Qiu Xiaolong and Mette Ivie Harrison.

In her new role at Joffe Books, Slatter will report to Kate Lyall Grant, publishing director, with a brief to commission crime and thrillers for the Joffe list. Joffe Books is home to authors such as Joy Elis and Faith Martin. Grant’s recent acquisitions include Jessica Huntley’s Horrible Husbands, Jade Lee Wright’s The Baby Group and Lisa Hall’s upcoming The Wife Swap.

Slatter will continue building that list by acquiring “police procedurals, regional crime, cosy mysteries, action adventure and psychological thrillers” for both the UK and US markets.
