A serial dangerous driver won’t be doing more jail time, however, he’s already spent almost two years in prison.
Whitby man Clifton Ling was set free recently in a Belleville courtroom after serving 656 days in jail following a wild
driving incident in Belleville in September 2023. He was also handed a lifetime weapons prohibition.
City police responded to an intimate partner dispute in the west end but suspect Ling, 41 at the time, drove away from police on Cascade Boulevard.
Soon after, Ling drove his vehicle into a police cruiser, then hit another vehicle on Sidney Street and crashed into a light pole.
At the time of the incident he had already been on eight separate Canada -wide driving prohibitions. He was sentenced for dangerous driving, flight from police, driving while prohibited, and disobeying a court order. Other charges were withdrawn.
