NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — Brandon McCoy, the No. 3-ranked player in the national class of 2026, is playing like a man on a mission.

The 6-foot-4 guard opted out of the spring grassroots season and went from the USA Basketball Minicamp at the Final Four all the way until last month’s USA Basketball U19 Trials without being seen in typical evaluation settings. When McCoy returned to the public and media eyes, the rust in his offensive game was undeniable. He ended up making the team and winning a gold medal, but nonetheless didn’t look quite as dominant as he had been in the past.

McCoy’s return to Arizona Unity paved the way for him to change the narrative at this week’s Nike Peach Jam, and in the first two days of the event, he’s done just that. He opened with 38 points on Tuesday, combining athletic plays to the rim along with some tough shot-making, which was in deep contrast to what we had seen with Team USA.

Wednesday, McCoy dropped 25 points on 10-for-13 shooting from the floor and 2-for-3 from behind the arc, despite having some struggles at the free-throw line. He also added eight rebounds and three assists. While his offensive production has taken a drastic jump, he’s continued to distinguish himself on the defensive end, where he’s impactful at the point of attack, versatile, and able to make plays on the weak side with his strength and athleticism.

On the recruiting front, college coaches arrive on Thursday. The expectation is that McCoy will be followed by Duke, Kentucky, Alabama, Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, and USC.
