Warner Bros has unveiled a first trailer for Mortal Kombat II, which is slated for release in theaters October 24.
In New Line’s follow-up to its hit 2021 action adventure Mortal Kombat, based on the blockbuster video game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, fan favorite champion fighters from the games — now joined by martial artist Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) — are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.
Lewis Tan led the first film as Cole Young, an MMA fighter facing off against Outworld enemies in a high-stakes battle for the universe. In addition to Tan, returning cast includes Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, and Max Huang as Kung Lao. Newcomers apart from Urban include Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, Martyn Ford, Desmond Chiam, Ana Thu Nguyen, and Damon Herriman.
Simon McQuoid returned to direct from a script by Jeremy Slater. The film is produced by Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh and McQuoid, and executive produced by Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Slater and Lawrence Kasanoff.
Unlike the first film, which released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max amid the Covid pandemic, Mortal Kombat II is getting an exclusive theatrical release. Check out the trailer above.
