2026 Garland (Tex.) wide receiver Ty Crethers has flipped from Texas State to SMU, the 5-10, 190-pound wideout announced. The Mustangs hosted him on an official visit this weekend.
SMU wide receivers coach Rob Likens worked with him at camp earlier this summer and impressed him.
“Great coach,” Crethers previously told On3. “Even in my couple times being up here taught me a lot. Showing me a lot of things about the game that I haven’t seen yet. Trying to give me the rundown, how it’s going to work when it gets to the college level. I just very much appreciate it.”
Head coach Rhett Lashlee spoke with him at length during camp and Lashlee’s program has impressed the local prospect. Crethers sat out last season due to transfer rules yet Lashlee still pushed hard for the Dallas area recruit.
“He’s very encouraging. He tells you what to do and go do it, and after he gives a command, just gotta do it,” Crethers said. “It’s like family up here. Everybody treats everybody like family. I love to see it. Me being from Dallas, I just love to see the community I grew up around and also can be a part of at the next level, it’d be a great community to be a part of.”
At camp on the Hilltop earlier this summer, Crethers put on a strong showing. This spring, he shined on the 7-on-7 circuit, but remained a sleeper. SMU offered this spring and he also amassed offers from North Texas, Texas State and others.
“I showed first that I can be dynamic and make plays no matter height, none of that,” Crethers told On3. “Came out here and work, show that I can still be one of the best, even if I’m underrated. Show every aspect of the game can still be played. It went pretty good today. Made plays, showed what I can do. Definitely got more in store, can put on a bigger show on any stage. Any chance I get to do it, I’m gonna do it.”
Crethers is unranked on On3, at this time, but that’ll change in the future as he gets his senior tape out there.
