Feral hog in south Florida.
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Wild hogs appear to be expanding their territory into Bexar County.
KENS 5 reports sightings are up as of late, including some showing up in the Salado Creek area on the East Side. Sightings have also been reported near Martin Luther King Park, well-within the city limits of San Antonio.
According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas could have a wild hog population exceeding four million. The feral animals cost the Lone Star State around $118 million per year in damages.
It is open season when it comes to hunting wild hogs, but this becomes a challenge in cities where various gun laws could make hunting prohibitive.
Coming into contact with the animals is not advised given that many can transmit contagious diseases.
