Satou Sabally is heading to the New York Liberty in one of the biggest free agency moves of the offseason. After helping lead the Phoenix Mercury to the WNBA Finals last season, the three-time All-Star forward has agreed to a multi-year deal with New York.
The move gives the Liberty yet another major piece as they continue building around a championship-caliber core. Sabally has become one of the most versatile stars in the league, capable of scoring, rebounding and creating offense from multiple spots on the floor.

The move was reported by Alexa Philippou on X who said, “Major WNBA free agency domino: All-Star Satou Sabally has agreed to sign a multiyear deal to join the New York Liberty, agent Zack Miller of WME Basketball tells me, @ShamsCharania and @kendra__andrews. Sabally departs after leading the Phoenix Mercury to the 2025 WNBA Finals.”
A Closer Look at the New York Liberty’s Latest Signing
After helping the Phoenix Mercury reach the WNBA Finals last season, Satou Sabally entered free agency as one of the most in-demand players in the league. She ended up rewarding herself with another big move after putting together one of the strongest seasons of her career.

Sabally averaged 16.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists last year, leading Phoenix in scoring and proving once again that she can impact games in a variety of ways. She was especially important during the Mercury’s playoff run, averaging 19 points and seven rebounds before a concussion forced her to miss the end of the Finals series.

Her arrival gives the New York Liberty another major offensive weapon to place alongside Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones. With Jones also returning, New York suddenly has a roster that looks even deeper and more dangerous than the group that already won a title and made multiple Finals appearances.

There is also a level of comfort for Sabally in New York. She will reunite with Ionescu, her former teammate at University of Oregon, while also joining former overseas teammate Leonie Fiebich.
