A petroleum spill along the Houston Ship Channel is under control, according to the US Coast Guard.

The Ship Channel remains open despite the accident at the PEMEX Plant at Deer Park, where an undisclosed amount of diesel was spilled, according to the Community Awareness Emergency Response system, and the oil company said on Sunday it’s aware of the problem and is addressing it.

PEMEX is Mexico’s state-owned oil company, which runs

“Our teams, along with specialized contractors, are actively working to clean the affected area,” PEMEX said. “Cleanup operations are expected to continue over the next few days.”

And the company said it is deploying oil “booms” that use mechanics to contain the spill and keep it from drifting deep into the Ship Channel.

The Deer Park refinery was the site of a fatal toxic hydrogen sulfide spill on October 10th, 2024.
