It’s no secret. I love Crestwood. It was love at first sight when I featured Julie Hayes’ gorgeous home my very first year, in 2016. By my count, that’s at least two, maybe three houses ago for the talented designer. So I was thrilled to discover this oh so special midcentury at 416 Crestwood Drive set back on lovely wooded half-acre lot.

Elegant Mid Century

Built in 1948, the 4,446 square foot, four bedroom, four-and-one-half bath house underwent a complete renovation in 2020. Preserved were the open concept floor plan and the original hardwood floors. Stepping into the light drenched spaces it’s difficult to credit that this house is 77 years old. It all feels so modern.

The house is exquisitely appointed with fittings and fixtures augmenting the vintage appeal. The unapologetically orange Knoll dining chairs play beautifully off the avocado green cabinets. The kitchen renovation includes all of the chef-grade requisites, including an impressive 60″ double oven gas range and power hood.

More “Sputnik” light fixtures. Open spaces are given subtle definition by changes in flooring as is the case with a bonus living area at back with its one by two foot stone floor.

Fenestration is completely bespoke likely architect specified like the custom nine light window in the primary bedroom framing sylvan views at back. Clerestory windows over the bed pull in additional light.

The adjoining bath is absolute perfection. Blond wood cabinets evoke 1950’s high style while black floor tiles taunt the eye with shifting perspective effects. Graphic wallpaper adds a finishing touch.

Each of the four bedrooms exhibits its own independent personality. Below, you’ll find a guest bedroom studio combo. Side sconces by the bed are practical and on trend.

Generally, the color palette is modern minimalist white, but when color is injected into the scheme, it consistently hits the right note. Here, the perfect baby blue cabinets with a stronger echo in the shower floor are flawless.

The best for last? Perhaps. The back garden, which was completely reimagined using native Texas plants and a simple rectilinear pool, creates a private, secluded space that appears more spacious than its half-acre dimensions.
