PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Phoenix police arrested a suspect in connection with a deadly stabbing that happened earlier this month.
Romano Smith, 36, was taken into custody Friday and booked into jail.
As the investigation unfolded, police said they determined that Smith was the suspect in 32-year-old Steven Martin Salas’ death. Phoenix police said Smith is facing one count of second-degree murder. His bond was set at $1 million cash.
The murder happened at an apartment complex in the area of 28th Drive and Cactus Road, just west of Interstate 17, on the afternoon of April 8.
When officers arrived at the complex, they found Salas with obvious signs of trauma. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later.
Preliminary information suggests that Smith and Salas were in a fight before Salas was hurt.
The case remains under investigation.
