Eagle Rock— Firefighters worked tonight to put out a grass fire on the side of the Ventura (134) Freeway in Eagle Rock while the California Highway Patrol kept freeway lanes closed.

The 10-foot-by-10-foot fire was reported at 6:53 p.m. Sunday on the side of the westbound Ventura Freeway just west of Figueroa Street, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jamie Stewart.

The first arriving firefighters reported they could handle the fire, Stewart said.
