1. Texas lawmakers add transgender bathroom bill to upcoming special session

A transgender bathroom bill is one of the 18 policy items lawmakers will discuss during the upcoming special legislative session with the largest focus on responding to the deadly Kerr County floods. Some argue that placing conservative policies on the agenda distracts from the flood response.

2. AG Ken Paxton launches investigation into Texas flood charity scams

Attorney General Ken Paxton is investigating alleged scams connected to charities for Texas flood victims.

In a Thursday press release, Paxton alleges that people have used the tragedy to fraudulently collect donations under false pretenses and “for personal gain.”

3. House gives final approval to Trump’s $9 billion cut to public broadcasting and foreign aid

The House gave final approval to President Donald Trump’s request to claw back about $9 billion for public broadcasting and foreign aid early Friday as Republicans intensified their efforts to target institutions and programs they view as bloated or out of step with their agenda.

‘It gives me hope’: Hunt resident reunited with scrapbook swept away by floods

It’s been a devastating couple of weeks for Texas with over 130 lives lost to floods. Searches continue for those who are missing. Many Kerr County residents lost what feels like everything, but the community has come together to help reunite lost and sometimes irreplaceable items found on the Guadalupe River with those most affected.
