Dr. Heydarpour is a distinguished assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School (HMS) in the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) at Boston, where he also serves as an investigator in the division of endocrinology. In his current position, he actively mentors research fellows, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students, with a particular emphasis on supporting postdoctoral and graduate students. Dr. Heydarpour provides training in genomics and genetics, including database management, within the division of endocrinology, diabetes and hypertension and statistical analysis at the center for Clinical Investigation (CCI) in BWH.

Leveraging over 20 years of experience in quantitative genetics, statistical genomics and clinical research, Dr. Heydarpour has made significant contributions to understanding the genetic and epigenetic regulation of blood pressure. His work particularly focuses on the aldosterone and mineralocorticoid receptor genes. As a co-investigator on more than 20 National Institutes of Health-funded R01 projects, Dr. Heydarpour has played a pivotal role in advancing research in this field.

Having begun his illustrious career at HMS in 2013, Dr. Heydarpour joined as a research scientist specializing in statistical genomics. He later became an instructor at the Perioperative Genomics Center at BWH from 2016 to 2019, followed by a role as an instructor in the department of medicine until 2024.

Before his tenure at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Heydarpour enhanced his expertise through various academic roles. He served as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Guelph from 2011 to 2013 and was a postdoctoral fellow at McMaster University in Canada between 2009 and 2011. Dr. Heydarpour’s earlier academic journey included positions at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, where he served as an instructor, lecturer and assistant professor, spanning from 1990 to 2008.

Dr. Heydarpour’s educational background laid a strong foundation for his illustrious career. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in animal science from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in 1990, followed by a Master of Science in genetics and animal breeding at Tehran University in Iran in 1995 and a Doctor of Philosophy in quantitative genetics from the University of Guelph in Canada in 2006. These academic achievements have been instrumental in Dr. Heydarpour’s success as they provided him with the knowledge and skills necessary for his groundbreaking work.

In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Heydarpour is actively involved with several professional organizations, including the Endocrine Society, the American Heart Association and the American Society of Human Genetics. His civic engagements extend to groups such as the Cardiovascular Endocrinology Research Group at BWH, the Medical and Population Genetics Group at the Broad Institute in Boston and Harvard Catalyst biostatistical group.

Dr. Heydarpour’s scholarly contributions are extensive. As a seasoned researcher, he has published over 45 peer-reviewed articles and more than 20 abstracts. Additionally, he has authored three books in collaboration with his doctoral students, which have been published in Persian and serve as essential resources for doctoral and master’s programs in his home country. Throughout his career, Dr. Heydarpour has received numerous accolades, including the Best Paper Award at the 8th European Association of Animal Production Conference in South Korea and the Dean’s Graduate Research Fund Award from the University of Guelph in Canada at 2006.

As he looks forward to future endeavors, Dr. Heydarpour intends to continue innovating by developing new methods for predicting and diagnosing diseases using artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on metabolic disorders, cardiovascular, and hypertension. He also envisions a promotion to associate professor while continuing to mentor students and research fellows and publish more papers. Dr. Heydarpour’s commitment to advancing scientific knowledge remains unwavering as he collaborates with colleagues to further develop innovative methods for disease prevention.
