JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville added to its accolades after securing the points trophy at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta, collecting three Boat of the Week honors from the MAAC.

Jacksonville’s first Varsity Eight, second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four were named the top crew of their respective boats.

JU’s first Varsity Eight earned a silver-medal finish in Sunday’s final. It finished second in the A final ahead of Vanderbilt, Purdue, Duquesne and Kansas State, recording a time of 6:35.265. The Dolphins finished second in their opening heat and won their semifinal over Purdue, Vanderbilt and Stetson, posting a time of 7:01.691.

Jacksonville’s second Varsity Eight won the silver medal in the A final, posting a final time of 6:47.081 and finished ahead of Louisville’s B Crew, Duquesne, Kansas State and Stetson. The time was nearly eight seconds clear of third place. They also won the initial heat on Saturday by more than 15 seconds.

The Varsity Four posted a bronze medal finish at the SIRA Regatta, helping JU lock up its first-ever overall points trophy at the event. The V4 had a third-place finish in the final with a time of 7:36.416. They defeated crews from Duquesne, Louisville and Barry in the final and earned second place in the opening heat and in the semi-finals en route to the A final on Sunday.

The Dolphins will compete for another MAAC crown May 17th at the conference championships.
