A man was arrested in New York City in connection to a deadly shooting that happened in New Jersey earlier this month, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officers with the Gloucester Township Police Department were called to the Lakeview Apartments on the 500 block of Lower Landing Road on Wednesday, July 9 around 5 p.m. for reports of a person shot, police said.

When the officers got the apartment complex, they found Anthony Sanflippo, 53, in the doorway to his apartment killed by a gunshot wound, according to police.

Detectives found a .45 caliber shell casing at the scene, police explained.

A witness told officials that the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Matthew Lucas, had taken their car, according to police. He was described as wearing green pants, a black surgical mask and a head garment with tassels.

Less than a week later, officers with the New York City Police Department found the reported stolen car on West 49th Street in Manhattan, officials explained.

Lucas was ultimately arrested for a different crime just one block away from where the car was found, police said. He was found with the key to the stolen car and a .45 caliber gun on him.

The shell casing found at the apartment complex was tested and was a match to the gun Lucas had on him in New York, officials said.

Investigators reported that they found green pants in the stolen car that appeared to have blood on them.

Lucas is currently being held at Rikers Island and will be extradited to New Jersey.
