A North Side hospital was placed on lockdown  Saturday morning amid reports of an active shooter who had wounded two police officers. The local alderman said a suspect had been taken into custody.

Chicago police did not comment on the incident beyond calling the incident a “police Involved shooting,” adding that details would be released at a briefing. But officials with Endeavor Health, who operate Endeavor Swedish Hospital, 5140 N. California Ave., confirmed a shooting and a lockdown. Outside the hospital, police vehicles lined the streets.

“Around 11:00am, there was a shooting at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital. The campus is currently closed while law enforcement leads their investigation,” the post read. “We are not aware of any active threat within the hospital and patients and team members at Swedish Hospital are safe.”

In a community alert just before noon, Ald. Andre Vasquez, 40th, told residents to shelter in place and avoid the area, saying that around 11:30 a.m., an incident occurred with “multiple shots fired and two officers shot, one in critical condition.” Nearly an hour later, the alderman released another statement saying that Lincoln District police (20th) confirmed a suspect had been placed in custody.
