Testimony continues on Wednesday in the fourth week of the Tanner Horner capital murder trial. Horner is accused of killing 7-year-old Athena Strand in November 2022 after he says he hit her with his FedEx delivery vehicle. Horner has pleaded guilty, and a jury will decide whether he faces the death penalty or life in prison without parole.
On Tuesday, testimony focused on the defendant’s past behavior, with character witnesses describing drug use, partying, and what they said was irrational behavior.
The testimony came from people who knew Horner at different points in his life, as the last several days of the trial have included character witnesses called to share what they remembered about him.
Their testimony added to what jurors have been hearing about Horner’s drug use, partying, and how he handled stress.
Later this week, jurors are expected to hear from Horner’s brother and grandmother.
