HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) — An Indiana woman is being held after being charged in connection with the shooting inside Swedish Hospital that killed Chicago police Officer John Bartholomew and wounded another officer.
Olivia Burgos is accused of lying during the purchase of the gun in 2024 that would later be used to kill Chicago police officer John Bartholomew and wound his 57-year-old partner.

Similar charges were also filed after the murder of Chicago police Officer Ella French.
Burgos told investigators she bought the gun in Merrillville, Indiana, for her boyfriend at the time.
Prosecutors said she told them he was a convicted felon and he gave her the money to buy the weapon.
Burgos also told federal investigators she’s addicted to fentanyl and was on the drug when she bought the weapon, despite stating otherwise on a form to purchase the gun.
Burgos also admitted to lying about her home address and reason for buying the gun.
She appeared in court in Hammond Wednesday.
Prosecutors laid out an extensive history of drug abuse and instability as they urged the federal judge to keep the 23-year-old woman in jail.
Burgos’ father testified in court Wednesday, saying she has a significant drug addiction and has not been able to stay in rehab for more than five days before checking herself out in recent years.
Despite promises from her family to get her into treatment going forward, the federal judge says he cannot trust them to do so or trust her to help herself at this point.
She’s next due in court May 28.
It’s not clear if investigators have been able to find her ex-boyfriend David Martinez, who allegedly gave her the money to purchase that gun.
And it’s still unclear how the suspect, Alphanso Talley, ended up with the gun, or how he got it inside Swedish hospital Saturday.
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents traced the Glock 29 .
Sources tell ABC7, Talley was likely searched three times without a weapon being detected. They said they believe Talley may have hid the gun in his body.
Talley is due back in court Thursday in connection with the shootings.
