Phoenix-area freeway closures, lane restrictions scheduled this weekend

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Drivers in Phoenix and the East Valley may need to plan ahead this weekend as closures and lane restrictions are scheduled for freeway improvement projects.

On northbound state Route 51, lanes between Glendale Avenue and Shea Boulevard will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for surface asphalt removal as part of a pavement improvement project. On-ramps at Indian School Road, Colter Street and Bethany Home Road also will be closed. Drivers are encouraged to use northbound Interstate 17 to get around the closure.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and use detour routes as needed for these weekend freeway restrictions:(ADOT)

In the East Valley, westbound Loop 202 will be closed at Gilbert Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for work on a widening project. Westbound Loop 202 on-ramps at SanTan Village Parkway, Val Vista Drive and Lindsay Road also will be closed. Traffic can detour via the Gilbert Road interchange.

On southbound Loop 101, lanes will be reduced to two lanes between Princess Drive/Pima Road and Shea Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for pavement improvements.

Westbound U.S. 60 will be closed overnight between Tomahawk and Crismon roads from 10 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday for pavement sealing. Drivers can use westbound Southern Avenue or Baseline Road as alternate routes.

Westbound U.S. 60 also will be narrowed to one lane overnight between Mountain View and Tomahawk roads from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday, and again from 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.
