STOCKTON, Calif. — San Diego softball (17-29, 3-10 WCC) scored two runs in the first inning but couldn’t hold off Pacific (17-33, 5-11 WCC), falling by a 4-2 margin on Friday evening at Bill Simoni Field to open its final road series of the season.

The Toreros struck first in the opening frame — Kaitlyn Wynia singled, advanced to third on a ground out and a wild pitch, and came home on a Taylor Johnson RBI single through the right side. Johnson then scored on a Shawnese Hogue-Lacy RBI double to right field to give San Diego an early 2-0 lead.

Pacific answered immediately, tying the game in the bottom of the first on a triple and a sacrifice fly. The score stayed deadlocked until the fifth, when the Tigers plated two more runs — a sacrifice fly and an RBI single — to take the lead for good. Kaitlyn Bartlow started in the circle and threw 5.0 frames before making way for Kelsey Tadlock and Alex Riggs in relief.
The Toreros will be back in action tomorrow for the middle game of their WCC series with Pacific. First pitch at Bill Simoni Field is set for 4:00 p.m.
