The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the man’s vehicle spun off the road and hit a concrete pole.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in his early 20s was killed early Saturday after his vehicle was rear-ended, causing it to spin and crash into a concrete pole, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO Sgt. Robert Hungerford said the crash happened around 3 a.m. in the 7700 block of Merrill Road.
According to Hungerford, a man in his late-30s was driving a Toyota Camry eastbound on Merrill Road when he rear-ended the victim, who was also eastbound on Merrill Road and approaching the light at Wedgefield Boulevard.
Hungerford said the collision caused the victim’s vehicle to “spin clockwise off the roadway into a concrete pole.”
Paramedics then arrived on scene and pronounced the victim dead, Hungerford said. The driver of the Camry was not injured.
This crash marks the 68th traffic fatality in Duval County in 2026.
