Governor Katie Hobbs ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on May 3 and 4. Here’s why.
PHOENIX — Gov. Katie Hobbs ordered flags throughout the state of Arizona to be flown at half-staff on May 3 and 4.
On May 3, all flags flying at all state buildings will be lowered to half-staff in honor of National Firefighters Memorial Day. Flags will be lowered on May 4 in honor of Arizona Peace Officers Memorial Day.
“We’ve experienced tragic losses in the firefighter and peace officer communities, and I know Arizonans will join me in remembering and honoring all of the heroes who died in the line of duty,” Hobbs said in a news statement. “We will never forget the courage and service of the men and women we’ve lost in Arizona, and we mourn alongside their families, friends, and all who loved them.”
While not required, individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join the tributes.
