CHICAGO — A person was killed and another person was critically injured by drivers in two different altercations Saturday in Gage Park and Logan Square, according to police.

Around 2:40 a.m. Saturday, a 65-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 5000 block of South Western Avenue when a man driving a blue SUV pulled up and an argument broke out, police said.

The driver then drove up onto the curb and struck the 65-year-old before fleeing eastbound on 51st Street, police said. The 65-year-old was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made, police said in an incident report.

Around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, five people were attempting to leave a gathering after an argument broke out in the 2700 block of North Lawndale.

While they attempted to leave, people on the scene began firing at their car and someone tried to block the car’s path, police said. The person trying to block the car’s path was struck by the car, and they were taken to Masonic Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Passengers in the car were treated on the scene by paramedics. One person has been arrested in the incident, and charges are pending, police said.
