Cooler temps, slight rain chance for Phoenix before triple-digit heat returns

  • May 4, 2026

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It’s been a relatively cool afternoon with plenty of cloud cover, and highs are expected to reach the low to mid-80s.

Winds won’t be as strong as Sunday, but breezes from the southwest could still bring gusts of 15 to 20 mph. Due to the Hazen Fire south of Buckeye, areas of smoke will be present, especially across the West Valley.

There is a slight chance of scattered light rain across the Valley this evening into early Tuesday morning, though impacts should remain minimal. Little to no accumulation is expected in the Phoenix metro area, while higher terrain east of Phoenix could see 0.10 to 0.25 inches of rain along with a few thunderstorms.

Tuesday (Cinco de Mayo) will start with morning temperatures in the mid-60s, followed by a pleasant afternoon with increasing sunshine and highs in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. Occasional gusts of 15 to 20 mph are possible.

Wednesday morning will be cool, with temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s, before warming into the mid-80s by the afternoon.

Heat begins to build Thursday with highs in the mid-90s, and triple-digit temperatures are likely to return Friday into the weekend. Mother’s Day is shaping up to be warm, with morning temperatures in the mid-70s and afternoon highs in the low 100s.

In the High Country, windy conditions will continue this evening with gusts of 30 to 40 mph. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected Tuesday into Wednesday, along with cooler temperatures. Drier and warmer conditions will return late in the week and into the weekend.
